  • Across Indigenous Australia, India, Nicaragua, and South Africa, the WEAVE Collective conducted ground-breaking, multi-country research on the role of feminist movements in preventing violence against women and girls. The Equality Institute and Play on Play Studio were tasked with translating these collective findings into a powerful digital experience — one that would: increase understanding of the critical role of women’s rights organisations; advocate for sustained funding to strengthen the field; and celebrate feminist movements to inspire the next generation of change makers.

  • WEAVE disrupts traditional, academic models of knowledge-sharing, centring women’s voices through a contemporary digital experience that is both feminine and strong, joyful and clear. The weave motif runs throughout, symbolising connection and solidarity. Blurred imagery that sharpens on hover reflects marginalised voices being brought into focus, echoing the creative spirit of feminist movements. Designed in collaboration with those closest to the work, the site brings complex research into an accessible, emotionally resonant format - building understanding, making the case for increased funding, and celebrating the strength, courage and collective power of feminist movements as a vibrant counter-narrative to crisis fatigue.

  • WEAVE launched at a critical moment, as women’s movements globally face backlash, shrinking democratic space, and the criminalisation of activism. By translating important research into an accessible, story-driven format, the project amplifies the transformative power of feminist movements and counters the ongoing erasure of women’s voices — especially those navigating intersecting forms of oppression. Ending violence against women and girls is fundamental to achieving 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals - we can't achieve them without it. WEAVE pushes this urgent agenda forward through creativity, connection, and hope.

  • Key features include a narrative-led design structure, integration of a ‘weave’ motif across visual elements, an uplifting yet compelling tone, and a user experience intentionally designed to feel accessible, intuitive, and emotionally resonant. The content and design is informed by consultation with the WEAVE Collective of feminist researchers and activists, ensuring authenticity. Visual storytelling techniques challenge traditional academic norms, while interactive elements invite ongoing engagement and reflection.
