UOB Private Bank Suites reinterpret 宝盖头 (Bǎo Gài Tóu), the Chinese “treasure cover” derived from the roof radical 宀 (Mián), as an architectural expression of protection. Anchored in UOB’s philosophy, the project creates a refined private banking environment that blends cultural meaning, spatial calm, and hospitality-led client experience.

  • UOB sought to reframe the private banking environment beyond conventional expressions of prestige, creating a setting that could feel both elevated and reassuring for a highly discerning clientele. The challenge was to support sensitive advisory conversations while avoiding the stiffness often associated with financial interiors.Delivered within an existing building, the project also had to work within pre-defined structural and spatial constraints. The design needed to reconcile openness with privacy, provide intuitive transitions between public and private zones, and achieve a high level of acoustic control, comfort, and composure through planning, material selection, and a carefully resolved spatial sequence.

  • The design response began by recasting private banking through the lens of hospitality, allowing the environment to feel more welcoming, discreet, and emotionally attuned. Working within the existing architectural framework, the planning was reorganised to create a layered progression from arrivals to advisory spaces, balancing openness with separation.A key milestone was the development of ceiling and threshold strategies that established rhythm, intimacy, and wayfinding without relying on overt enclosure. Acoustic integration, material restraint, and carefully proportioned rooms refined the experience further. Through iterative coordination and detailing, the project evolved into a cohesive environment aligned with UOB's brand values.

  • UOB Private Bank Suites strengthen the bank’s client experience by translating its values into a setting that feels considered, elevated, and deeply reassuring. The environment supports more focused and meaningful conversations, encouraging confidence, ease, and relationship depth in moments where trust matters most.Commercially, the project enhances UOB’s positioning by redefining private banking as a more sophisticated and human-centred experience. Socially, it demonstrates how financial environments can be designed with emotional intelligence rather than formality alone. Environmentally, its emphasis on durability, timelessness, and adaptive reuse supports long-term value, ensuring the project remains relevant well beyond short-lived aesthetic trends.

  • At the heart of UOB Private Bank Suites is a spatial interpretation of 宝盖头 (Bǎo Gài Tóu), the Chinese “treasure cover” derived from the roof radical 宀 (Mián). The concept is translated into architecture through a sequence of layered ceiling planes that create a subtle sense of shelter across the project. This gives the space its defining character: calm, composed, and quietly protective. The client journey is shaped through a carefully calibrated progression from open reception areas to increasingly private advisory settings. Changes in scale, lighting, and material tone define thresholds without disrupting continuity, allowing the space to feel fluid while still preserving intimacy.Acoustic performance is fully integrated, recognising confidentiality as a critical component of the private banking experience. Advisory rooms are named using Chinese characters containing the 宀 (Mián) radical, embedding cultural meaning into the project with clarity and restraint. The VIP suite, named 家 (Jiā), extends the narrative to family as the ultimate form of wealth. Warm timber finishes, tactile surfaces, and curated ASEAN artefacts complete the experience, grounding the suites in regional heritage while reinforcing a sense of longevity, refinement, and care.
