  • Public screens in shared places are typically designed for commercial broadcast, treating people as consumers and competing for attention rather than supporting community life. Surveys show that 82% of people don't like looking at advertisements in public spaces, while 86% want more creative and community content on outdoor screens. At the same time, councils and cultural institutions struggle to make the social value of public storytelling visible, credible and repeatable without surveillance-style tracking. The challenge was to design a scalable public infrastructure model that could support community voice, cultural access and place connection, while producing measurable evidence of social impact.

  • STORYBOX demonstrates that public screens can do more than capture attention: they can create measurable social value. Across 50+ programs and 25+ precincts since 2020, surveys record a 66% notice rate, 82% appreciation rate and 83% recommendation rate. The Birds of Australia STORYBOX touring program engaged 65,000 pedestrians with 88.9% audience satisfaction, while First Nations storytelling pages generated 4,271 views in Port Macquarie and 3,979 views in Grafton. For communities, this means greater visibility, inclusion and access to culture. For partners, it produces durable social, cultural, environmental and economic value through a reusable platform that strengthens public life.

  • STORYBOX demonstrates that public screens can do more than capture attention. They can create measurable social value. By replacing broadcast logic with cultural participation, it turns everyday civic spaces into places of connection, learning and shared cultural presence. For communities, this means greater visibility, inclusion and access to culture. For institutions and precincts, it creates stronger public engagement and longer-term value through a reusable platform. Its impact is social, cultural, environmental and economic: people connect more deeply with place, partners strengthen public connection, and reuse reduces the waste of one-off activations. STORYBOX is digital infrastructure designed to strengthen public life.

  • It operates as a shared civic asset through which communities, cultural institutions, creatives and place custodians bring stories, knowledge and dialogue into public space. Its logic shifts success metrics away from commercial attention and toward connection, inclusion and cultural participation. Featuring citizen storytelling, touring exhibitions, community insight initiatives and interactive public experiences, the platform empowers communities to contribute and see themselves reflected in the public realm. Impact is understood through public value, not data extraction.Rather than treating the screen as a one-way broadcast surface, STORYBOX opens it up as a site of exchange, recognition and shared experience. Mobile-to-screen interaction, responsive publishing tools and privacy-led evaluation allow programming to adapt across communities while capturing insight into reach, sentiment and public response without surveillance or biometric tracking.Designed as a reusable shared asset, STORYBOX can be reprogrammed and redeployed over time, extending cultural reach, strengthening the return on public investment and offering a more sustainable alternative to one-off activations.
