Optus Stadium creates a world-class, uniquely Western Australian fans-first environment based on a rigorous design strategy to create an architecture ‘of this place’. The rich design ethos for a people focused place that reflects ‘Our People, Our Land and Our Sport’ extends throughout the stadium and the surrounding parkland.

  • The design brief called for a 60,000 seat multi-purpose stadium to host AFL, Cricket, Rugby, Soccer, Concerts and potentially a future Commonwealth Games. Internally, the widest range of hospitality experiences for any Stadia in Australia are all designed to provide universal accessible including the Field Club, Field Suites, Open Corporate reserves, Suites, Sky Terraces, Club Lounges, Restaurants, Function Room, Coaches Club, and Chairman’s Club. The fast track DBFM project was delivered in 3 years, three weeks ahead of schedule, exceeding the client brief by creating a flexible, adaptable and value for money international quality, multi-purpose venue that is international recognizable.

  • Our design exceeded the stadium functional brief by considering the whole site as a Stadium Park informed by the 40,000-year indigenous heritage of the Whadjuk Noongar people, acting as a symbolic bridge between the past, present and future. It seeks to repair the damaged ecology and recent history of the site, originally an important Whadjuk Noongar meeting place, and used for a period as rubbish tip, cement works and a public golf course. The striking bronze anodised aluminium stadium facade is reflective of Western Australia’s geology, responding to changes in seasons and events through the considered integration of LED lighting.

  • Extensive stakeholder collaboration was undertaken by the whole consultant team to successfully integrate technology, lighting, security, wayfinding, public artwork and universal access. The diverse range of premium products ensures every fan’s experience from before they leave home to after the leave Stadium Park, on the integrated public transport is memorable, key design features include: - 41 hectares of Re-habilitated landscape - Integrated public transport Bus, Train, Ferry and bicycle network - First stadium in world to have 100% LED lighting throughout - Dedicated changing Facilities for Female Players and officials - Largest Video screens (each 340m2) in Southern Hemisphere

  • The wider Stadium Park forms a gateway to the city, open year round to the public, incorporating a community arbour linking the new Stadium Station to the Swan River Matagarup bridge, public jetty, a community oval, amphitheatre, children’s playgrounds, picnic areas, integrated public art, river edge boardwalk, cafes, restaurants and a function centre. Other key stadium design features are: - 85% seats undercover - Utilisation of interactive BIM model throughout design process - Maximisation of daylight & natural ventilation throughout - Over 80% locally fabricated - Waste minimisation through optimisation of off-site fabrication - Provision of a ‘clean’ stadium that can be easily branded by AV and LED lighting - 4G Wi-fi coverage across entire stadium - Over 1000 TV screens - Future 10,000 seat expansion strategy included Optus Stadium has proven to be a commercially successful venue that will pay for itself in 10 years, in the first year; o Over 40 major events and 400+ in house events held o Over 2million fans, with 1.5m going by free Public transport o Over 125,000 interstate and 35,000 regional Visitors o 3000+ staff employed More than simply a stadium, Stadium Park is an internationally recognizable 365 day destination for everyone.
