OOXii Vision Kit

Currently to obtain glasses, one must have their vision tested by a professional, obtain a prescription, have the glasses custom made and return some time later to collect them. This is impossible for most people due to the lack of access to eye health professionals, geographic isolation and cost. A simple, affordable system of testing vision and dispensing glasses on the spot is required, which can be administered by basic health workers in remote and low resource settings.

The OOXii Vision Kit contains everything a basic health worker needs to test vision and dispense customised glasses on the spot. The kit includes a patented, simplified vision testing wheel which enables people with no prior knowledge of eye testing to determine the correct lens powers and dispense corrective glasses; vision charts; a mobile application providing instructions and enabling data collection; adjustable glasses frames and pre-cut lenses for onsite assembly. The OOXii Vision Kit is durable, portable and affordable. Over the past 5 years, prototypes have been tested in Papua New Guinea and revised after feedback from basic health workers.

The OOXii Vision Kit is affordable, durable and robust and so can be used in the most remote and cahllenging places. The Testing Wheel is a simplified method of determining refractive error (blurred vision which can be corrected with glasses), designed to be inutitive to someone with no previous knowledge of eyes, glasses or lenses. A mobile application with offline capability has step-by-step visual instructions and can record data for inventoory management and public health decision making. Glasses are dispensed by inserting pre-cut lenses into adjustable steel frames. A wide range of pre-cut optical lenses are provided in the Kit, thus allowing immediate correction of almost all possible refractive errors. Each kit component is designed to minimise packaging and waste, to minimise size and weight, to ensure kit components are safe through all means of transport and climatic conditions.
