The design solution asked for the integration of mechanical hinges inside the soft arm allowing intuitive product adjustment to match the user desired lounging position. While doing this the arms and backs still needed to integrate with the seating modules, allowing for multiple compositions to match a user’s current and future lifestyle. While doing all this, the sofa needed to be incredibly comfortable while having a personality and presence which connects with users to provide emotional attachment to the product, rooting the product in the user life for many years.

The design and development journey of the Zaza employed an iterative design process, employing multiple prototypes to investigate and understand the lifestyle which could be fostered through the product proposal. While designing Zaza, great attention was given to the design from the inside out. Considered componentry laid the foundation for an elegant aesthetic that can be coloured and textured in a vast range of premium fabrics and luxurious leathers.

The Zaza sofa proposes an alternative lifestyle for a living space. The adjustable arms and backs (optional adjustment) allow different comfort positions in conjunction with the modular platforms allowing one or multiple platforms to be arranged in varied compositions, changing with the user. The removable covers of the sofa paired with the ‘KingCare’ service, allows the covers to be both cleaned and updated in-line with the user personal tastes cementing the sofa as an enduring furniture piece. Finally, the design has provided significant opportunity to attract new trade and commercial customers with its sinuous lines and distinctive form.
