blueegg partnered with Woolworths Group — Australia’s largest private employer — to redesign its careers website and applicant journey. The result transformed a frustrating, inaccessible experience into an inclusive, engaging platform that reflects the Group’s scale, diversity, and values — and is now the most-visited page across the Woolworths Group site.

  • The previous Woolworths Careers site frustrated both candidates and internal teams. Candidates regularly abandoned applications due to confusing navigation, unclear content, and a mobile-unfriendly platform that failed to communicate the Group's employer value proposition. Parents helping first-time job seekers and professionals evaluating multiple offers found the process lacked clarity. Internally, talent teams were constrained by a rigid SuccessFactors system with limited customisation capability. Despite strong EVPs, none were reflected in the candidate-facing experience. The brief: design a modern, inclusive journey that made applying simple and positioned Woolworths as an employer of choice for Australia's 190,000-strong workforce.

  • blueegg led a 12-week end-to-end redesign spanning research and audit, look and feel workshops, stakeholder alignment, inclusive user testing, and iterative evidence-led design. The team developed a unified employer brand identity repositioning the Group as a single employer while celebrating its diverse portfolio — Woolworths, BIG W, Everyday Rewards, CartLoop, Quantium, and more. A smart role finder lets candidates discover opportunities by interests and daily tasks. Employee value propositions were embedded through real career stories and lived journeys, not corporate copy. A scalable pattern library and EVP communication framework were delivered to support ongoing iteration.

  • The redesigned site is now the most visited page across the entire Woolworths Group site. Average engagement time increased from under one minute to over five minutes — meaning candidates are reading and absorbing information before applying, producing stronger, more informed applicant pools. The experience transformed a liability into a strategic asset: higher completion rates, stronger candidate quality, and a platform that genuinely reflects Woolworths' inclusive culture and leadership as one of Australia's most significant employers.

  • Unified employer identity: The redesign repositions Woolworths Group as a single employer brand while celebrating the diversity of its portfolio — Woolworths, BIG W, Everyday Rewards, Primary Connect, and more. The visual system creates coherence across a complex multi-brand organisation. Smart role finder: A guided discovery experience that lets candidates find roles based on their interests and daily tasks rather than job titles — creating belonging from the first interaction and reducing drop-off from candidates unfamiliar with corporate job nomenclature. EVP brought to life through storytelling: The design translates Woolworths' employee value propositions into real career journeys — Tamim's refugee employment story, Kylee's 33 years and community work, Steven's remote community impact — using imagery and narrative to convey purpose and culture authentically. Inclusive user testing: The design process included testing with candidates across diverse cohorts — parents assisting first-time job seekers, professionals evaluating multiple offers, and candidates with accessibility needs — ensuring the experience works for the full breadth of Woolworths' applicant population. Scalable pattern library and EVP communication framework: Delivered to enable the internal talent team to iterate, expand, and maintain the experience without dependency on external design support.
