Violet Assure (TM) Fall Prevention System

Current fall detection devices with fixed cables limit versatility, risk tangling in bed mechanisms, and pose dangerous tripping hazards. Care staff are notoriously short of time, creating a dynamic environment where poorly designed products are routinely damaged. Low-quality parts often fail and cost staff valuable time. Gold Coast Bed Alarms identified an opportunity to improve safety and efficiency in care environments while modernising their sensor system to better suit the contemporary interiors of modern facilities. The Challenge: create a wireless, portable solution suitable for residential care homes, addressing these problems.

Ingenuity collaborated with Gold Coast Bed Alarms, to develop a wireless sensor, receiver and stand system comprising enclosures, electronics and embedded software. Utilising an integrated battery and wireless technology the Violet Assure™ system includes a portable sensor and receiver which interfaces with existing nurse call systems. Constructed from premium aluminium and stainless-steel components, the assembly is durable and easily cleaned. With consideration of patients and their families the design strikes the balance between therapeutic assurance, friendliness, and compatibility with many interior styles. The stand and sensor assembly allows monitoring positions previously not possible, streamlines setup, and reduces care staff workload.

Gold Coast Bed Alarms has seen a surge in interest for Violet Assure™, with noticeable positive effects. The unique enclosure, hardware and software platform places the device well ahead of their competitors. Utilising readily upcycled materials, less intensive production methods, minimising plastic, and designing for disassembly, the product minimises its environmental impact. By prioritising end users, the design is not only safer and minimises care staff overhead, but most importantly, makes the lives of the patients it helps, just that little bit more homely and comfortable.

The Violet Assure™ system features a sensor/transmitter, receiver and stand. Each sensor includes an infrared lens, detecting movement within a virtual ’curtain’ up to five meters away. The sensor hardware is housed in an extruded aluminium case, featuring a membrane switch, hidden fasteners, and is protected from dust and water with integrated seals. The sensor snaps to the height-adjustable stand with a concealed magnet, and offers effortless vertical and horizontal toggling. The stand is minimal, easily adjustable and has a slim, non-slip base. The base can fit under furniture, accommodating a variety of room positions. The receiver affixes to a small magnetic wall mounted bracket. It features a co-moulded button and alert light which is activated when the sensor is tripped. Motion detection can be paused via a simple press of the receiver button to allow staff time to attend to the resident’s needs.
