Trio is a modular public seating system for transit hubs, civic spaces, and educational campuses, designed for indoor and outdoor application. A novel rethinking of the tandem seat typology, it replaces conventional beam-and-bracket assemblies with a mono-material, sculptural system that integrates durability, sustainability, and connectivity into a single coherent object.

  • The tandem seating category has remained largely unchanged for decades — composite assemblies of steel frames, bolted shells, and upholstered inserts that are costly to maintain and difficult to recycle. Trio was conceived as a complete re-examination of that typology. The brief demanded a system capable of performing at the scale and rigour of major transit infrastructure — withstanding extreme daily use, meeting hygiene requirements, simplifying installation in live environments — while eliminating material complexity, establishing a credible circular lifecycle, and remaining competitively priced without compromising design quality.

  • Trio was resolved around a single decision: rotomoulded LDPE. This mono-material approach allows sculptural, monolithic forms — bucket seat profiles, integrated armrests, planter volumes — to be produced as single-piece shells with no secondary structure. It simultaneously defines the formal character and enables the circular strategy: one material, one waste stream, one recycling pathway. Floor-fixing is integrated into the base geometry, eliminating subframes and reducing installation time in live environments. Power and USB connectivity via OE Elsafe is incorporated without disrupting formal clarity. The planter module follows the same material logic, maintaining visual consistency throughout.

  • Commercially, mono-material construction and simplified installation deliver competitive project pricing, making Trio viable across airport and transit tenders where cost-per-seat is tightly benchmarked. Environmentally, Derlot Renew provides a closed-loop end-of-life pathway — units are collected, reprocessed, and re-entered into production, directly supporting clients' sustainability reporting. Societally, Trio raises the standard of public waiting environments through ergonomic seating, integrated power access, and biophilic greenery — contributing to spaces that are more comfortable and more dignified for the people who move through them every day.
