SIA Chair

The brief of the SIA chair was to create a slim dining chair that was comfortable. To develop a slender dining chair that would be accessible to anyone no matter where they lived, without compromising on the luxury and comfort of dining. Often the compromise of slender chairs is comfort, this notion sparked the research and development of the chair.

Inspired by traditional bearings the SIA chair is slender in design yet uncompromising in comfort. Shaped from solid Ash the SIA chair curves to the bodies form whilst using the minimum amount of timber required to achieve comfort. The chair is contrasted by a minimal stainless-steel frame which supports the sculptural timber elements and allows for an articulating backrest. Removable sleeve bearings elegantly assemble to the chair frame allowing for smooth angle adjustment of the chair to ensure comfort.

The SIA chair is contrasted by a minimal stainless-steel frame which supports the sculptural timber elements and allows for a stackable design. Using the natural flex of the steel frame the backrest is simply press fit assembled allowing for minimal shipping volume and easy end of life recycling or repair. This ensures that every component in the chair can be repaired or replaced independently. The small footprint and stackable design ensure minimal shipping volumes and FSC rated solid timber and steel frame consider honest and sustainable material selection.

The SIA chair was developed to utilize state of the art 5 axis CNC machining and celebrate this through its sculptural form. Made in Sydney the SIA chair is produced from intelligent manufacturing techniques to ensure the piece can compete and sell to a global audience. Focus on honest use of materials ensure designs longevity and ensure the product retains it's value over time.
