SensAI is a flood monitoring sensor for stormwater pits, bridges and culverts, developed with Australian councils and CSIRO. By combining high-precision radar sensing with predictive analytics, it provides real-time updates on water levels to prevent overflow, shifting flood and daily stormwater pit management from a reactive to a proactive approach.

  • With ageing infrastructure, Australia’s stormwater network is inadequate for intense weather events. Councils depend on manually inspecting drains, reacting after issues occur. When floods happen, the impacts are seen through the loss of human life, property, crops and livestock. Maintenance teams are dispatched after damage is already done. Compliance reporting is a drawn-out process. Preventive data is rarely available and aggregated. The challenge was to design a monitoring solution that could survive harsh, outdoor conditions, providing predictive flood intelligence and visibility for routine operational pit maintenance to enable councils, government bodies and other stakeholders to act before infrastructure fails.

  • SensAI uses patented depth sensing radar technology combined with light sensors to analyse surge levels, debris accumulation, and internal and external blockages. This data offers real-time updates on drainage pit conditions, predictive insights for flood prevention, and automated reporting for councils and organisations. Engineered to endure severe weather conditions, the self-contained unit features a double seal for IP68 water and dust ingress protection rated to 5m depth. Remotely configurable global connectivity allows data to be accessed by councils and commercial infrastructure operators anywhere, instantly. It eliminates the operational burden of frequent physical monitoring to better prepare infrastructure for floods.

  • SensAI reimagines stormwater management as a proactive practice rather than incident response. For governments, this reduces the costly burden of reactive maintenance, allowing for data-based decision-making for smarter infrastructure and more efficient reporting. For field crews, it allows efforts to be directed where they are most required. This builds safer societies, better protected from flooding that threatens lives, properties and ecosystems. By providing intelligent environmental monitoring, councils can intervene before drainage problems begin. SensAI empowers smarter urban water infrastructure that is more resilient and prepared for severe weather conditions.
