Quad Lock 360 Suction Base

Driven by continual improvement and exceeding customer and market expectations of what is possible, we challenged ourselves to develop a suction base strong enough for demanding adventure environments, but also be versatile and quick to adjust and reposition. The challenge in the brief was a paradox as we strived for a solution that could meet the demanding strength and adhesion requirements of securely mounting large and small devices, through varying environmental conditions with a non permanent system that was intuitive, fast and easy to move and set up on different surfaces and objects.

The paradox of the brief detailed in the design challenge became a balancing act in development that was only achieved through months of iterative design. We tested in environmental chambers, with extreme hot / cold cycles to automotive standards with the specification to maintain pressure throughout. A big challenge was to source and maintain control of material during the manufacturing process that could be held to tight tolerances and performance requirements at mass production volumes. The result is a suction cup that can withstand ambient temperatures ranging -10°C to 50°C (14°F to 122°F) ambient / outside temperature without experiencing loss of suction.

Smartphones and devices are high-value items that are fragile and susceptible to being damaged easily and not intended for extreme use in adventure activities. Quad Lock cases and the 360Suction Base enable use of devices in ways that weren’t possible, giving confidence to users that their devices will remain secure and attached to any surface through any adventure. Extending the lifespan of the device and often outlasting the users’ time with it, provides a positive environmental impact by reducing landfill but also an economical benefit to the user allowing them to sell or pass down their device before it fails.
