Petra is a modular seating system for residential, hospitality, workplace, and public interiors. Named after the Greek word for “stone,” its sculpted forms bring softness, comfort, and adaptability to contemporary spaces. Designed for specification, longevity, and flexible use, Petra supports how people gather, rest, work, and connect.

  • CHALLENGE
  • SOLUTION
  • IMPACT
  • MORE
  • We initiated Petra to address a clear product and spatial challenge: how to create a modular seating system with the presence of a sculptural object and the adaptability required for contemporary interiors. The brief called for generous forms that felt visually calm, refined, and composed across residential, hospitality, workplace, and public settings. The challenge was to balance soft, continuous geometry with structural durability, modular flexibility, commercial usability, and long-term serviceability. Petra needed to move beyond appearance, resolving comfort, material responsibility, flexible specification, and spatial presence into a seating system that supports how people gather, rest, work, and connect.

  • Petra resolves this challenge through a unified product system. Development moved through hand-sculpted studies, 3D modelling, and full-scale prototyping, with each form refined for proportion, softness, comfort, and spatial presence. Rather than designing a separate backrest for each piece, Petra uses one consistent CNC-cut backrest profile across the chair, lounge, and modular settings. This creates a unified sculptural language while reducing backrest templates, upholstery patterns, material use, and production set-ups. A removable backrest improves freight efficiency, storage, handling, and future repair. Refined internal framing and close upholsterer collaboration ensured durability, comfort, and modular flexibility.

  • Petra creates impact across commercial, environmental, and social dimensions by supporting interiors that are adaptable, comfortable, and built for longevity. Its consistent CNC-cut backrest profile reduces the need for multiple templates, upholstery patterns, and production set-ups, lowering material use and waste. The removable backrest reduces freight volume, storage demands, and repair costs, supporting distributors, clients, and future maintenance. Australian production helps sustain local manufacturing and upholstery skills. For users, Petra brings comfort, visual calm, and a considered experience of gathering, resting, and working, showing how sculptural product design can support comfort, responsibility, serviceability, and long-term value.

  • Petra is defined by sculpted, rounded forms that reference the grounded presence of weathered stone while remaining clearly designed for contemporary interiors. The collection includes a chair, lounge, and modular components that can be used individually or combined for larger settings across residential, hospitality, workplace, and public environments.A key feature is the consistent CNC-cut backrest profile used across the collection. Rather than creating separate backrests for each piece, this shared profile gives Petra a unified sculptural language while reducing templates, upholstery patterns, production set-ups, material use, and waste. The removable backrest allows each piece to be transported in a more compact form. This reduces freight volume, improves storage efficiency for distributors, lowers transport damage risk, and enables part-specific repair or replacement if needed. The internal structure combines high-grade plywood and natural timber, selected for durability, low toxicity, and long-term performance. CNC cutting improves accuracy and reduces offcuts, while Australian production supports local manufacturing and upholstery skills.Together, these features create a seating system that is visually refined, comfortable, adaptable, and serviceable, with practical value for specifiers, distributors, and long-term users.
