Bringing your baby home from the hospital is one of the most special and challenging moments in a new parent's life. Overnight, we are expected to become a doctor, nurse, nutritionist, sleep therapist, and counselor - among other things - overwhelming to say the least. Traditional baby monitors rely on parents to "monitor the monitor", keeping a watchful eye on them both day and night, leading to a loss of sleep and unnecessary anxiety. The question we answered was how to provide parents with peace of mind, proactively informing them about their infant's wellness, while allowing them to enjoy the little moments.

The Owlet Smart Sock is effectively a miniature pulse oximeter that wraps comfortably around a sleeping baby's foot. Real-time heart rate and blood oxygen levels are tracked, and proactive, smart notifications sent if either metric falls outside preset ranges. These are seen through simple lights and audible alerts on a bedside base station and on parents' smart device, when the base station is connected to Wifi. The simplicity of using the sock and the way parents interact with the system as a whole have been considered as much as the core technology, together providing confidence and peace of mind.

We continually collaborate with researchers across the world, working together to improve infant health in their own communities. Among other things, our data is leading to a better understanding of what is normal, allowing researchers to improve definitions of what is abnormal, and where additional care could be given earlier, leading to better outcomes in an infants development and healthcare.
