  • CHALLENGE

  • MORE
  • Different types of custom contact lenses treat different ocular surface disease and vision issues. While custom rigid corneal lenses are routinely fit using corneal topography devices, life-changing scleral lenses are underutilised. They demand high-skill, trial-and-error and a separate device to measure the sclera (whites of the eye). The brief was to create a single, simple-to-use device that measures both cornea and sclera, with accurate data for fast virtual lens design, to enable fitting of all custom lenses and reduce capital overheads and skill barriers. The core challenge was expanding measurement coverage without impacting accuracy, usability, or patient comfort.

  • Vantage evolves the Medmont Meridia® into a complete, affordable solution for all custom lenses by integrating scleral-specific optical technology with its trusted corneal topography. Users of initial prototypes requested improved patient access and sightlines. To overcome this design roadblock, we redesigned the optics system to reduce bulk, pairing a tapered, slimline chassis with an ergonomic, adjustable chinrest. This allows practitioners to retract eyelids while taking captures with the single-handed joystick. Further improving corneal topography, we redesigned the imaging cone to increase access and comfort for patients with deep-set eyes. Designed to be intuitive, Vantage makes advanced specialty lens care accessible.

  • Societally, Vantage transforms life-changing scleral lens fitting from a high-barrier niche into an accessible clinical standard. Environmentally, superior measurement accuracy eliminates the medical waste and travel emissions of discarded ‘misfit’ lenses. Its multi-purpose design replaces single-purpose devices, lowering manufacturing energy. Commercially, Vantage expands the market by lowering the barrier to entry for generalists and corneal lens fitters. By combining scleral and corneal topography and dry eye analysis features in one intuitive, solo-operator device, Vantage drives clinical confidence, high return-on-investment and scalability for independent practices. This positions Medmont as a strategic practice-growth partner, securing long-term customer loyalty.

  • Vantage provides a comprehensive end-to-end contact lens fitting tool for investigating eye health, determining lens type (RGP, Ortho-k or Scleral) and designing accurate custom lenses. It adds industry leading wide-coverage scleral topography alongside Medmont’s renowned corneal topography. Paired with lens simulation software, this accurate data guides lens design parameters.Infrared, blue, and white light imaging modes aid assessment and identification of pathologies including keratoconus and dry eye disease. High-resolution photography and video support detailed documentation. Low light levels enable high-quality imaging without causing photophobic distress. The adjustable, ambidextrous headrest ensures comfort for all patient heights and can be used for other devices on the table – like slit lamps. The compact optics, featuring a small optical cone for more complete eye coverage than larger designs allow, ensures operators can hold open difficult-to-capture eyes, unobstructed. Clinical workflow is supported by Medmont Studio software. This flexible platform allows clinicians to design lenses in-house, with third-party software, or export data straight to lens manufacturers for expert construction. This connectivity transforms an intimidating process into an intuitive standard of care, empowering clinicians to confidently fit complex custom lenses with speed and accuracy.
