Public space providers, particularly Landscape Architects, Local Authorities and Councils, increasingly require infrastructure that balances high-active play with aesthetic sophistication. There is a need in the development of public open space to include a visual connection to country, often with indigenous flora or fauna. The challenge for the design team, was to move beyond traditional modular climbing walls to create expressive, site-responsive forms without compromising safety or structural integrity. The team needed to develop a system capable of replicating any conceivable geometry while maintaining clear sightlines for public safety and suitable climbing functionality for users of varying skill levels.

The solution includes a proprietary internal sub-frame system integrated with high-precision fabrication. This system allows for the creation of complex, faceted geometries that function as true bouldering systems in any conceivable shape. The design team used this solution in the context of creating NATIVE ICON animal structures. By keeping the climbing activity on the external form, the design ensures open visibility and social safety. The "factory-built, ship-to-site" model ensures that even the most ambitious sculptural forms are delivered as fully resolved, standards-compliant assets, successfully bridging the gap between bespoke public art and commercial, repeatable play infrastructure.

ICONS™ redefines active infrastructure as a sculptural landmark, increasing the visual and cultural value of public parks. By incorporating indigenous fauna or flora, the collection creates a visual link to place and local ecology, encouraging environmental stewardship through play. Commercially, it provides councils with a durable, low-maintenance alternative to enclosed play structures. Societally, it promotes multi-generational movement and social interaction, transforming underutilised spaces into vibrant community hubs that support physical health and mental well-being through the concept of "sculptural movement."

The innovation foundation of the ICONS™ collection is the proprietary internal sub-frame system. This novel engineering solution allows for the creation of virtually any geometry, moving away from flat-panel climbing walls into the realm of complex, organic, and architectural sculpture. The faceted aesthetic is a deliberate design choice; it provides the varied climbing angles required for athletic movement while creating a high-end visual presence that complements modern urban design. Furthermore, the externalised climbing surface maintains 360-degree visibility, which is a critical safety consideration for local councils and urban planners. Every icon is fabricated in-house in Melbourne, ensuring that high-precision engineering meets the artisanal finish required for public art.
