The HP Spectre x360 13 is a series of impossible things. It’s small with a large screen. It’s thinner than a USB port, but has USB ports anyway. It’s small, but has an all-day battery and always-on LTE. It should be impossible. But it’s not.

  • HP Design's goal was to maximize the things a user interacts with directly: the screen, keyboard, trackpad, and to minimize all the rest. This means thinner screen bezels, a side-panel thinner than a USB port, and a 360 degree hinge.

  • HP Spectre x360 13 is small with a large screen. The 4K OLED display pushes out to the edges, and has a 90% screen to body ratio. The webcam is 2.2mm, the world's smallest IR webcam for facial recognition. It’s thinner than a USB port, but has USB ports with hinged drop-jaws so the port becomes thicker than the laptop when in use. The speaker grille has been moved to the bottom of the machine, so that the machine looks like it is made of one smooth sheet of uninterrupted aluminum surrounding a keyboard and trackpad.

  • Users sometimes cover their computer cameras with tape for privacy. HP’s answer to this problem is a physical switch on the side of the machine which physically disables the camera, preventing unwanted camera use. For users concerned with unwanted microphone use, this year HP has added a switch to disable the microphone. In a remote work society, privacy at the flip of a switch is a social good. HP Spectre x360 13 is 25% thinner than the previous year’s version. It’s lighter, too, thanks to an all-aluminum shell. Lighter weight means material saved in manufacturing, and fuel saved in transport.

  • The HP Spectre x360 13 is made of dual anodized aluminum and gem-cut edges that convey elegance. The gem cut shape is continued through the back of the hinge to communicate the x360 positions the machine can be used in, notebook, presentation easel, tablet, and tent modes.
