Heritage Extension Table

The design challenge for the Heritage Extension Dining Table was to craft a dining solution that effortlessly transitions between intimate gatherings and large events while embodying timeless elegance and innovative functionality. The brief emphasised the necessity for adaptability to diverse dining needs as seamlessly as possible without compromising on craftsmanship or durability. Furthermore, the table needed to feature exceptional durability along with ease of maintenance and repair ensuring that it remains a cherished piece for generations to come.

Our design solution tackles the challenge of versatility and usability with softTouch Extension Technology™, enabling effortless transitions between seating capacities. Key milestones include integrating a composite wood internal structure with hand-selected solid timber fletching, ensuring durability and natural beauty. A steel frame throughout the tabletop provides long-term structural integrity. Roadblocks included balancing functionality with aesthetics, overcome through synchronized movement and assistive mechanisms. Our design journey involved careful material selection, precise engineering, and user-centric testing, resulting in a harmonious blend of form and function that responds effectively to the brief.

The Heritage Extension Dining Table delivers a multifaceted impact. Commercially, it enhances King Living’s portfolio with a timeless, adaptable option meant to endure for generations of families. It is positioned as our flagship table offering and is currently the largest table size available at 3.4 Meters. Environmentally, its engineered design crafted from quality materials is designed for longevity, in conjunction to the materiality the serviceability and reparability have been considered extending the lifecycle of the design. Societally, it cultivates enduring dining experiences, facilitating meaningful connections. Additionally, its mechanically assisted lift minimises manual labor and strain, enhancing user accessibility and experience.

The Heritage Extension Dining Table combines aesthetics and functionality with a timber top featuring waterfall edges that blend the grain seamlessly. It has detachable, sculpturally angled legs, wrapped in timber veneer and supported by an engineered steel structure with rubber gaskets, ensuring stability and eliminating creaks or vibrations. These legs also facilitate easy transportation and can be replaced individually if damaged. A hidden magnet beneath the table, along with a custom leather handle with a sewn-in steel plate, adds to its practicality, ensuring handles are accessible when needed and hidden otherwise. The table’s durability is enhanced by a steel frame that extends to the legs and meets international standards (BS EN 12720:2009+A1:2013, BS EN 12721:2009+A1:2013, REACH 233, EN 15372 Level 1), reflecting a commitment to quality. The table also features a semi-automatic mechanism that extends it from 2400mm to 3400mm using a 1000mm wide butterfly extension, making it our largest table yet. This design, alongside the capability for refinishing, ensures longevity and versatility, making it a superior choice for any dining space.
