Frogbox Sports Camera

Designing a camera for outdoor sports over extended durations presents significant technical challenges, particularly for community-level users with limited time and expertise. The device needed to operate for up to 12 hours without external power, withstand heat and direct sunlight, and maintain image quality across large fields. Existing cameras overheat, lack battery endurance, or require complex setups. Additional challenges included reducing vibration from elevated mounting, capturing clear long-range audio, and ensuring ease of use. The final design integrates these requirements into a compact, automated, weather-resistant camera while maintaining strong video and audio performance, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.

The process analysed existing workflows & behaviours to better support community volunteers. A 23-step setup was reduced to five: Unbox, Pair, Raise, Centre, Stream. Every component was developed from scratch; the motorised gear tilt mechanism was moved to the mast mount to free internal volume & enable full app control, eliminating any need to touch the camera after raising. Prototyping tested thermal management, condensation, audio capture & app integration, prompting multiple structural iterations. Camera, battery + weatherproof microphone were resolved into one housing. Eighteen parts became seven. The interface was reduced to one cable, one button, an LED, paired with one app only.

The FrogBox Sports Camera brings broadcast‑quality live streaming within reach of community sport, where volunteer‑run clubs have historically been priced & skilled out of professional coverage. Complexity was reduced to one camera, one box, one cable + one tripod, cutting setup time from 25 to 3 minutes. This allowed any club member to setup and stream a match, rather than relying on one or two trained individuals. The camera has also proven effective in extreme conditions, remaining in place during rain & high temperatures where previous systems required removal. The first production batch sold out within weeks, with manufacturing scaling to meet demand.
