Flapple

Many apple slicers feature raised handles to keep the users hands away from the cutting surface when in use but in creating clearance for hands, they add significant height and bulk to the product, making it difficult to store efficiently. Blades are often set into a plastic base and the result is the blades never meet the cutting surface to complete the cut. Price considerations usually mean the blades are left uncovered when stored. The designers set out to create an apple slicer that made complete cuts, with comfortable handles. Safety and slimline storage were major considerations.

Simple but genius answer to the design challenge was to create a base for the apple to sit on featuring grooves for the blades to sink into, completing the cut and removing the need for a cutting board. In order to ensure the perfect placement of the blades each time, shallow oblique triangular pyramid structures were formed between each groove to direct the blades and automatically align the base on each cut. The base locks together with the folded handles to cover the blades for safe and compact storage, with a total height of little more than the blade depth.

No other apple slicer stores as safely and as compact as Flapple. Flapple provides the same comfort as other apple slicers featuring raised handles, but with superior performance thanks to its auto-aligning base which ensures it completes each cut where others don’t. It’s locking base serves the dual purpose of simultaneously protecting its blades from damage in the drawer, ensuring they stay sharp and prolonging its life, while protecting the user and other tools from the potential harm of its exposed blades. The folded item is a neat parcel void of overhanging parts or openings to tangle with other tools.
