The team identified that many water bottles claiming to be reusable and sustainable were either not easy to clean or would retain unwanted odours. Recent studies by the CSIRO indicate that exposure of hot food and beverages to plastics increases the risk of plastic shedding and food contamination. The design challenge for the Glass Multi was to design a beautiful glass bottle that was a pleasure to drink from for hot and cold beverages. The bottle also had to be easy to clean and not retain odours.

The unique lid design incorporates an internal stainless steel liner. This liner separates the lid plastic from touching the bottle’s liquid contents, preventing odour retention and removing the risk of plastic shedding. The internal thread of the lid is engineered to provide a quiet, smooth opening and closing. The Glass Multi features a wide mouth to ensure it is easy to clean with a smooth rounded lip that provides an enjoyable drinking experience. The lid design features a shallow gasket channel. This allows the silicone gasket to be removed and reinserted during deep cleaning without damaging the product.
