Container Collect: Making Recycling Effortless

MAKING CHANGE EASIER FOR EVERYONE. Queenslanders use over 3 billion beverage containers annually, but many millions are still not recycled. We are working with Containers for Change who are changing the game. With their rapidly growing Container Collect service available from a dynamic app, Containers for Change has empowered more than 22,000 Queenslander app users to recycle their containers, offering 10-cent rewards for every returned bottle or can.

Everyone is familiar with food & drink home delivery. What if used drink containers could be returned and recycled? We partnered with Containers for Change to conceptualise, design and deliver Container Collect, a home collection service for containers. Container Collect epitomises good design principles by prioritising user needs and streamlining the recycling process. The service has been meticulously crafted through a co-design process with input from users to meet their diverse needs. From the design and development of backend operator portal through to the intuitive frontend booking system and seamless pick-up process every detail has been refined to enhance user experience.

Container Collect sets a new benchmark for innovation in social impact design. In partnership with Containers for Change we reimagined the traditional model of recycling to create a pioneering solution that changes the way individuals participate in the circular economy. The user experience and digital technology we designed and built has enhanced Containers for Change’s operational processes and operator partnerships to offer a completely novel approach. The service empowers users to make a tangible difference with minimal effort. Through innovative thinking and creative problem-solving, Container Collect is driving meaningful change with 50 million containers collected by Container Collect since 2021.

Containers Collect: MAKING RETURNING SIMPLE. The Containers for Change app offers a convenient solution for recycling, providing a range of features to streamline the process. From scanning containers for eligibility to tracking recycling efforts, booking a home collection, donating to charity, and engaging in educational games (Recycle Race, Popper Rescue and Container Blitz), the app is designed to make recycling accessible to all.
