  • CHALLENGE
  • SOLUTION
  • IMPACT
  • MORE
  • The design challenge for the Confetti Range was to find a harmonious balance between aesthetic/design, manufacturing/ production methods, friendliness, versatility and originality with the needed incorporation of sustainable, readily available materials that are recycled and, importantly, recyclable after use. The challenge was to make environmentally conscious and progressive designs that highlight the potential for new approaches to furniture design.

  • To fulfil the design brief, the designers GibsonKarlo wanted to use and celebrate a commonly used material in an honest and upfront way. Roto-moulded recycled plastic is a frequently used material but is often covered and hidden. The designers chose to keep the surface bare as the core of the Confetti collection. The result was a range of products that utilise timeless simple forms to highlight the eclectic, vibrant aesthetic of recycled materials.

  • When designing the Confetti Collection there was a crucial focus on approaching every aspect of the design process sustainably as well the finished product. Confetti pieces utilise round, geometric forms to create many different products from the same material without changing the way the plastic tubes are manufactured. As much a statement on the need for better environmental practices and the reuse of waste, Confetti is also about creating visually distinctive pieces that balance the functional requirements of furniture and aesthetics.

  • Its commitment to designing sustainably without compromising on aesthetic, approachability and functionality, demonstrated through the treatment of the recycled material used. Its comprehensive use of 100% recycled plastic and application to over 15 different products. Its commentary on celebrating raw and sustainable materials.
