  • The team identified a gap in Visual Communication Design resources that effectively communicate meaning through diverse modes. Many students struggled to engage with text-heavy materials and to connect theory with practice. The challenge was to design a platform that delivers content through multimedia, including video, interactive presentations, AI-supported tools and micro-games, to support varied learning styles and multiple intelligences. Additional constraints included maintaining alignment with official study designs, ensuring clarity and consistency across formats, and creating a cohesive experience that functions effectively across devices for both independent and classroom learning.

  • The team developed CheatsheetPro as a multimodal learning platform that communicates design concepts through a combination of video, interactive presentations, AI-supported feedback tools and micro-games. Each component was designed to reinforce meaning in different ways, allowing students to engage with content visually, verbally and interactively. Iterative testing with students and teachers informed refinements to usability, clarity and engagement. Key developments included the integration of real-time feedback, scaffolded interactive tasks and exam-style simulations. The final solution creates a cohesive system where multiple modes work together to deepen understanding, support varied learning preferences and strengthen connections between theory, practice and assessment.

  • CheatsheetPro has improved student confidence and performance by making complex design concepts more accessible and aligned to assessment standards. Teachers benefit from reduced preparation time and consistent, high-quality resources. In its first four months of operation, CheatsheetPro has been adopted by over 30% of secondary schools across Victoria, with this figure expected to grow as new subject materials are introduced. It has been widely recognised by leading educators as an exemplary resource and has quickly become a go-to platform for students in Years 7–12. Environmentally, its digital format reduces reliance on printed materials while supporting scalable, equitable access to learning.

  • A multimodal approach that combines colour, symbols and structured visuals to strengthen memory retention and support connections between key terms and concepts across different ways of learning.Careful management of cognitive load, with information presented in clear, digestible chunks to support sustained attention and understanding for a diverse learner base.Scaffolded learning experiences that build progressively, from identifying key terminology through to synthesising ideas into meaningful conceptual discussion.Content delivered through varied formats, including interactive presentations, micro-games, AI-supported tools, interactive worked examples and video, ensuring multiple learning preferences and intelligences are supported.
