Cardiac arrest happens suddenly without warning, the heart stops pumping blood around the body, and there’s only minutes to save them using an AED. Most cardiac arrests happen at home, yet existing AEDs are expensive and unaffordable to families. They’re often located in public buildings (locked after hours). Too often they’re not maintained and don’t work because the gel on the electrode pads dried out or the battery died. A key barrier to use, is they’re intimidating and complicated with separate components needing to be assembled prior to use. They’re too far away from where they’re needed in the home.

Globally, cardiac arrest kills between 7-9 million people each year— 80% happen at home. Rapid defibrillation is the only effective treatment, less than 10% survive because they don’t receive defibrillation in the first few critical minutes. Before now AEDs (automated external defibrillators) were too expensive for families to own. CellAED is not only easy-to-use and small enough to carry or mount on a wall, it’s also more affordable – so that just like every home and workplace has a smoke detector, every home and workplace could also have a defibrillator. Saving lives from sudden cardiac arrest at home is now possible.

Each CellAED® has a unique serial number assigned to the owner and IoT connection for reporting its state and readiness with updates sent to the owner via email. If CellAED® is used on a person, the event data including the heart rhythm and therapy provided is sent via IoT link and available for the person who experienced the cardiac arrest and their medical team.
