  • MORE
  • The design challenge was to create a work‑focused ATV capable of navigating extreme terrain while responding to real user behaviors observed in European and Scandinavian markets. Field research showed that users frequently modify standard ATVs with oversized tires and custom cargo beds to overcome obstacles and increase hauling capacity. The project needed to deliver superior traction, obstacle‑crossing ability, and storage versatility without adding unnecessary complexity, weight, or environmental impact. At the same time, it had to leverage the existing Outlander platform to reduce part proliferation, simplify manufacturing and service, and preserve Can‑Am’s strong visual identity and long‑term durability.

  • The solution is a six‑wheel ATV featuring an industry‑first flatbed cargo system designed around modularity, durability, and ease of use. Removable side walls, a tailgate, and a newly developed sliding and removable LinQ system allow tool‑free cargo configuration based on task requirements. The 6x6 drivetrain delivers continuous traction when crossing logs, rocks, and uneven terrain. Ergonomic touchpoints, integrated handles, intuitive latches, and optimized rider posture, were refined through close collaboration between design and engineering teams. Reusing the Outlander front platform improves manufacturing efficiency and reduces environmental impact without compromising capability.

  • The Outlander MAX 6x6 Backcountry 1000R delivers meaningful impact by addressing unmet professional needs in forestry, land management, and remote work. Its modular cargo system reduces reliance on aftermarket modifications, lowering waste and improving safety. Platform sharing and optimized material use reduce part count, manufacturing impact, and service complexity while extending product lifespan. By improving traction, load management, and adaptability in extreme terrain, the vehicle enhances productivity, reliability, and user confidence, reinforcing Can‑Am’s leadership in the utility ATV segment through responsible, future‑focused industrial design. All materials are selected to optimize performance while meeting CO2 efficiency targets and supporting long-term durability.
