  • The Bodyfurn® Flex range responds to a common but complex challenge in education: discomfort caused by rigid seating that impacts posture, focus and engagement. Today’s learning environments must accommodate a wide range of body types and teaching approaches, with furniture that encourages movement, meets strict durability standards and suits contemporary learning spaces. The challenge was to create a dynamic, ergonomically advanced seating solution that improves comfort, reduces fatigue and supports effective teaching and learning - without compromising strength, aesthetics or sustainability. A further goal was to generate new intellectual property through a distinctive, user-centred design that is also commercially manufacturable.

  • The Bodyfurn® Flex range was developed through a user-centred design process guided by research, student feedback, and input from experts in biomechanics, paediatrics, and education. Its key innovation is a fully dynamic seat and backrest that respond to movement, supporting varied postures while enhancing comfort, focus, and engagement. Ergonomics and durability were validated through pressure mapping, iterative prototyping, and testing to AS/NZS standards. Designed for the rigours of real-world use, the range features anti-slip stacking, ergonomic contours, and safe handling. Made with over 90% recycled plastic, Bodyfurn® Flex combines performance, aesthetic appeal, and sustainability in a robust, future-ready solution.

  • The Bodyfurn® Flex range delivers meaningful impact across education, sustainability, and commercial performance. Designed to reduce fatigue and support focus through dynamic movement, it enhances student comfort, wellbeing, and engagement — particularly for those with heightened sensory needs. Made from over 90% post-consumer recycled plastic, it reflects Furnware’s commitment to sustainable, efficient, and safe production. Bodyfurn® Flex has strengthened Furnware’s market leadership, with adoption across Australasia and Southeast Asia, and was developed as a scalable platform to support future growth in diverse learning environments. The project also creates long-term value through new, protectable IP in the education furniture sector.

  • Dynamic Ergonomic Support The fully flexible seat and backrest pivot with the user, supporting natural posture changes to reduce fatigue and enhance comfort throughout the school day. Comfort and Ventilation Contours are shaped for upright, reclined, forward-leaning, and side-facing positions, supporting both individual focus and collaborative learning. Validated through body pressure mapping (BPM) to optimise comfort and reduce strain. Perforated contact zones improve airflow, enhancing thermal comfort. Safe and Efficient Stacking A precise stacking pitch allows for compact storage of sled base chairs and stools, and efficient transport. Anti-slip stoppers enable safe placement on desks protecting surfaces. Practical for Learning Spaces Fitted with a built-in backrest handle, the chair is easy to lift and move, supporting flexible layouts in agile learning environments. The sled chair frame features reverse cantilever legs, allowing users legroom and freedom while seated, supporting dynamic movement and in-use collaboration. Tested and Certified AFRDI Blue Tick certified and tested to AS/NZS 4610.2:2020 Chairs at ‘Severe’ level, ensuring long-term durability in high-use environments. Sustainable by Design Made from over 90% post-consumer recycled polypropylene (PCR) and recyclable steel. Designed for disassembly, repair and end-of-life recycling, and certified with the Australian AFRDI Green Tick.
