Bloom

We set out to create an adaptive light shade which could be adjusted and changed to meet the needs of the user and the space. The challenge was to create a mechanism which was elegant, easy to use and could change the configuration of the lightshade without stressing any of the parts. We were also constrained by the need to use materials which were in keeping with our existing range and with our ethos of sustainability.

Our design solution is a hand made mechanism which was inspired by the humble umbrella. It allows the shade to open and close, and be set an any position in between. The veneer strips which make up the light shade are fixed with rivet which allow them to slide over each other while the shade is opening and closing. Working together, these elements create a lightshade which adapts to the user and the space.

The Bloom is our most ambitious project to date. We set out to create an adaptive lighting solution and we have achieved that with the Bloom. We stayed true to our company ethos of using sustainable materials and process and have successfully launched a beautiful, sustainable product to market.
