  • Over 4.2 million Australians live in strata properties such as apartments, townhouses and units, with no viable path to home EV charging. As EV adoption accelerates, this gap risks creating a two-tier system where homeowners charge overnight for cents while strata residents are locked out entirely.Alchemy and NHP identified three compounding constraints:existing electrical infrastructure in most strata buildings was never designed for EV loads;strata approval processes create delays and uncertainty; and conventional charging hardware costs place deployment beyond reach for most buildings. The brief was: a full charging ecosystem that works within existing infrastructure, at a price point viable for deployment at scale.

  • Alchemy Charge began designing SmartPoint in 2020, betting that Level 1 infrastructure could carry strata EV charging if paired with smart software. The first units reached market in 2023. Early deployments exposed two roadblocks: manufacturing at scale required deeper electrical engineering, and the product needed to be specified for any licensed electrician without EV training. NHP joined the design team in 2025 to resolve both. The result is SmartPoint, the world's first Level 1 OCPP charging solution, interoperable across any global EV network. NSW's Right to Charge legislation in 2025, which Alchemy Charge advocated for, validated the core premise.

  • Commercially, SmartPoint has 500 units deployed across Australia, with 10,000 planned within 12 months through an expanding wholesaler network and partnerships with car manufacturers, energy suppliers and charge point operators. Environmentally, at 10,000 units SmartPoint avoids an estimated 13,100 tonnes of CO2 annually; at one million sockets over 10 years, 1.31 million tonnes avoided per year. Societally, SmartPoint closes a fundamental equity gap, giving the 4.2 million Australians in strata access to home charging on the same terms as homeowners. The transition to electric vehicles should not be a privilege reserved for those with driveways.

  • SmartPoint is the world's first Level 1 OCPP EV charging solution, fully interoperable across any charge point operator network globally rather than locked to a proprietary platform. The 8-SKU range covers 10A and 15A variants with WiFi, 4G cellular, and RFID options, rated IP66 for outdoor and carpark environments. RFID provides access control and billing attribution in a single credential.Dynamic and static load management prevents electrical overload across multi-unit deployments through a managed queue, prioritising sessions based on building capacity. The software ecosystem operates at 99.98% uptime and includes a host management portal, the Alchemy Charge iOS and Android app, and open integration with third-party charge point operator platforms. Hosts set tariffs with transparent monthly reconciliation.Preconfigured for any licensed electrician to install, with no EV training required.Australian Made certified and manufactured with NHP,SmartPoint is engineered for longevity at 100,000 switching cycles, equivalent to 27 years at ten uses per day. Priced from $499 with a lifetime warranty, no comparable product approaches the price-to-reliability ratio. Level 1 charging places lower demand on the grid than Level 2 or 3 alternatives, and the platform is compatible with all e-mobility devices, tracking kWh delivered as a verifiable emissions reduction metric.
