  • It is estimated that 29million tonnes of construction waste is sent to landfill every year in Australia. The carpet Institute estimates that approximately 90,000 tonnes of carpet waste is disposed of in landfill each year. To date there has not been a credible local recycling solution for this waste. The multi polymer construction of carpet products make it difficult to recycle due to the costly separation process and lack of end markets for components in Australia. The challenge was to create a process that could recycle the total product into a high value new product that had commercial value.

  • Milliken teamed up with SaveBoard for two years of research and development, leading to a new resilient flooring made from 80% carpet waste and 20% soft plastic waste. Various concepts were trialled to eventually produce a product that met all the technical, durability and environmental requirements of the project. This innovative product is the first of its kind in the world, allowing hard-to-recycle materials to be upcycled into something valuable that can be recycled repeatedly.

  • Renasci marks the introduction of Australia and New Zealand's first genuinely circular flooring solution, establishing a new standard for sustainability and responsible manufacturing practices. Renasci illustrates that thoughtful design enables the conversion of waste into valuable resources for future use and can be made locally, creating a new industry and employment opportunities in Australia and New Zealand. From a commercial perspective, it provides a robust, high-performance flooring solution that is fully recyclable in Australia and New Zealand from inception.

  • Key features:1. Made from waste destined for landfill – 80% carpet waste and 20% soft plastic waste.2. Fully recyclable over the full lifecycle – factory, installation and end of life waste.3. Low embodied carbon.4. RED List Free.
