  • MORE
  • During the Design Research phase, we identified a critical flaw in off-road vehicle recovery: while users invest heavily in premium traction boards, they rely on generic, rattling camping shovels that clutter highly coveted roof rack space. The challenge was to design a robust, versatile digging tool that natively integrates with existing MAXTRAX MKII and XTREME recovery boards without requiring independent mounting hardware. We needed to overcome the limitations of standard shovels by providing both close-quarters leverage for tire ruts and extended reach for clearing underbody components safely.

  • Our solution fundamentally reimagines the recovery shovel. The core innovation is its modular, dual-handle design and uniquely contoured blade. By utilising secure brackets and straps, the shovel's blade and handles nest perfectly into the profile of existing MAXTRAX boards, creating a unified recovery kit. When deployed, users can utilise the short handle for tight spaces around tires, or attach the extension pole to safely clear sand and mud from differentials and axles without crawling beneath an unstable vehicle.

  • Commercially, this product acts as a powerful brand-ecosystem lock-in for MAXTRAX. By solving a critical storage and deployment issue, it drives customer loyalty and increases market share by upselling existing customers. Societally, it vastly improves the emotional well-being of users during high-stress vehicle recoveries by ensuring their entire kit is instantly accessible and safely deployable. Environmentally, its heavy-duty aluminum and composite construction ensures longevity, moving consumers away from disposable, easily broken generic shovels.

  • Key Features and Functions: World-First Integration: The first recovery shovel engineered to natively nest and mount directly onto existing MAXTRAX MKII and XTREME boards, eliminating external roof rack mounts.Modular Adaptability: Features a highly versatile, interchangeable handle system. A short handle provides critical leverage in tight wheel ruts, while a heavy-duty extension pole allows for safe, deep underbody clearance.Striking Automotive Aesthetics: Designed not just to function, but to look incredible. Its sleek, aggressive profile visually complements the premium aesthetics of the latest generation 4x4 vehicles.Extreme Durability: Born from rigorous prototyping, the shovel utilizes a heavy-duty aluminum blade and high-strength composites designed to survive the harshest off-road environments without bending or failing.Safe Clearance Engineering: The adaptable extended reach keeps users safely away from the dangerous underside of bogged, highly unstable vehicles during extraction.
