Dogs are uniquely vulnerable to heat. Unlike humans, they cannot sweat through their skin they rely on panting, which is metabolically costly and inadequate in sustained heat. Australian summers regularly exceed 35°C, yet the pet bedding market offered no clinically validated temperature-regulation solution for dogs. Existing “cooling” beds relied on passive gel inserts or moisture-wicking fabrics that absorb rather than manage heat. The challenge was to source and integrate a proven, active thermal-management technology into an orthopaedic dog bed, one that would perform year-round without chemicals, while remaining machine-washable, durable, and aesthetically appealing for the modern pet owner.

Dazy Dog partnered with Outlast Technologies whose phase-change material (PCM) technology was originally developed for NASA to manage extreme temperature fluctuations in spacesuits. The Outlast® fabric is integrated as a secondary layer beneath a 200gsm cotton outer cover, creating a dual-function surface: cotton for softness, PCMs for proactive thermal regulation. When a dog’s body heat rises, the PCMs absorb and store excess heat; as the dog cools, they release it back, continuously balancing temperature without electricity or additives. The bed is completed with CertiPUR-US® certified dual-layer memory foam, Ultra-Fresh™ antimicrobial treatment, and fully waterproof internal liners. All covers are machine-washable.
