SABI responds to the growing shift of pets as family and part of modern wellbeing and lifestyle. Yet most pet feedware remains disposable, purely functional, and visually disconnected from contemporary interiors.The challenge was to create a sophisticated pet feedware range that reflects the tastefulness and artistic value of designer interiors. This involved balancing functionality, pet ergonomics, material selection, and form. Key limitations included choosing materials that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing, ensuring the pieces would enhance the home while meeting essential needs such as comfort, stability, hygiene, and ease of use.

Béton Collection repositions everyday feedware as architectural objects, balancing pet ergonomics with interior design values. Key milestones included defining form direction, selecting concrete for stability and permanence, and integrating a removable stainless-steel bowl for hygiene and usability. A mat was developed to mitigate spillage and anchor the system in place.Challenges included resolving weight versus usability, refining proportions across pet sizes, and ensuring seamless integration of components. Béton Collection includes a robust concrete vessel, bespoke steel feeding bowl, and premium non-slip mat. The design elevates feeding into a considered ritual, while expressing a deep relationship between space-making and pet ownership.

Commercial:Positions pet products as premium homeware, shifting from volume to value. This enables stronger margins, less reliance on mass production, and greater investment in materials, design, and storytelling.Environmental:Built for longevity using a hydrophobic concrete mix and stainless-steel bowl. Water resistance is embedded in the material, reducing maintenance, chemical reapplication, and product replacement. The focus shifts from industry disposability to durability.Social: Reframes daily pet care as a considered ritual, deepening the bond between pets and owners. Encourages intentional consumption and fewer, higher-quality objects in the home.

SABI partnered with Vert to challenge a pet product category dominated by disposable, purely functional objects that feel disconnected from the home..Inspired by Brutalist architecture, Béton Collection is defined by clean lines, balanced proportions, and honest materials. It integrates seamlessly into the home as a designed space while prioritising core function: comfort, stability, hygiene, and ease of daily use.A key focus was ergonomic feeding. The bowl is set at an 8° forward tilt to reduce neck strain and improve access for different breeds, including brachycephalic dogs. To balance this geometry with real-world use, a laser-etched fill line indicates the maximum water level, preventing overflow. The stainless-steel bowl sits within the concrete vessel made using a hydrophobic additive, reducing absorption without surface coatings. Finished with an acid wash, it reveals a tactile, stone-like surface. Testing showed no staining or residual odour, even with oil-based food, reinforcing durability. The feeding mat is made from saffiano leather, selected for its scratch and stain resistance and easy wipe-clean maintenance. It is available in single and double configurations, with painted-edge detailing and a refined finish. An anti-slip base maintains anchoring during use, supported by the weight of the vessel.
