The project addresses a gap in the spectator seating market for a mobile, high-capacity grandstand that is quick, simple, and cost-effective to deploy and pack down. Traditional hire options, such as scaffold grandstands, require significant labour, time, and expense. Felton’s challenge was to design a fully portable system that delivers safe, temporary seating across venues lacking permanent infrastructure. Key constraints included easy relocation, single-person operation, strict safety compliance, and long-term durability under heavy, high-traffic use. The solution needed to balance portability, strength, and safety while meeting the needs of councils, schools, sports clubs, and event operators requiring flexible seating solutions.

The Tow & Fold delivers a portable, rapid-set up grandstand that provides safe, high-capacity seating without permanent infrastructure. The design approach focused on achieving fast setup/pack-down, ease of transport, and minimal labour. A key breakthrough was the integration of a hydraulic lift system, enabling controlled deployment from transport to full capacity within minutes. Early challenges included balancing structural strength with portability and ensuring compliance with strict safety requirements. These were resolved through a heavy-duty steel undercarriage paired with corrosion-resistant aluminium seating. Road-ready towing capability and a compact folded form allow efficient relocation between venues, supporting councils, schools, clubs, and events.

Felton’s Tow & Fold Grandstand is a towable, rapid-deploy seating system designed for flexible, safe, high-capacity use. It seats up to 200 spectators and is ideal for sports fields, parks, festivals, civic events, and other high-traffic venues. Equipped with a retractable tow bar and compatible with a 4.5-tonne towing vehicle, the grandstand can be easily transported between venues. Rapid setup and pack-down allow it to be moved off-field when not in use, maximising available space and operational efficiency. Safety is central to its design, with enclosed seating, guardrails, non-slip flooring, and a momentary hydraulic safety button to protect users and reduce liability. A central stairwell with handrails ensures safe crowd movement, while full compliance with public safety standards supports secure operation. Constructed with premium aluminium seating for corrosion resistance and low maintenance, paired with a robust steel undercarriage for long-term durability, it is built for frequent transport and heavy use.
