  • Synchronisation is fundamental to professional multi-camera productions, ensuring cameras and audio sources remain perfectly aligned in time. Genlock and timecode are key to achieving this precision: genlock provides shared timing signals, locking camera sensors onto the same frame cadence, while timecode assigns consistent timestamps to every frame, allowing footage from multiple sources to be easily matched and synchronised.Smartphones are powerful image-making tools, but an intrinsic shortcoming is an inability to synchronise with professional production systems and multi-camera setups. Without genlock support or external timecode, smartphone cameras operate on independent internal clocks, leading to frame drift, misalignment and post-production complexity.

  • The Blackmagic Camera ProDock addresses this technology gap, transforming an iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max into a fully integrated production camera. Empowering budding filmmakers with precise hardware-level synchronisation, it allows iPhones to function reliably within coordinated, professional workflows. For the first time, mobile content creators can leverage genlock, and the synchronisation critical for multi-cam stitching, virtual production and ‘bullet time’ capture, where precise temporal alignment across devices is essential to eliminate flicker, tearing and other unwanted artefacts.Camera ProDock also enables access to professional audio, external recording, monitoring and stable power, allowing iPhones to integrate seamlessly into complex, synchronised production workflows.

  • Blackmagic Camera ProDock leverages design to solve a technical challenge, but in doing so also greatly expands Blackmagic’s market reach. This collaboration with Apple taps into an enormous, design-literate user base already comfortable with high-performance creative tools. The ProDock becomes a bridge, inviting iPhone users into a professional ecosystem without demanding that they abandon familiar hardware.Blackmagic Camera ProDock reframes the iPhone as a modular component within a larger production workflow. This lowers the financial and psychological barriers to entry, allowing emerging creators to adopt Blackmagic workflows incrementally. The experience is cohesive by design, encouraging continued engagement across this ecosystem.
