The Rover 2 is a lightweight off-road pod camper designed as an alternative to traditional camper trailers. Engineered for off-grid travel in a compact, tow-efficient package, it can traverse terrain conventional caravans cannot. Designed for couples exploring the Australian landscape, it provides self-sufficient accommodation with minimal setup and travel flexibility.

  • The Australian camping market has long forced a difficult choice — commit to a large, heavy caravan or wrestle with a complex fold-out camper trailer. Neither suits travellers seeking something simpler, more capable, and enjoyable. The challenge was to deliver full caravan comfort in a compact, lightweight form without setup complexity. Interior space became the defining constraint, demanding a design that felt open rather than confined. Large dual doors enhance visual openness, while curved joinery and shadow lines add depth. Intuitive storage and an ergonomic external kitchen complete the experience, all within a lightweight package built for serious off-road performance.

  • The design journey centred on a core challenge: making a compact space feel spacious. Carefully resolved interior details create visual lightness and spaciousness, while concealed storage remains intuitive and organised. A key breakthrough was a world first custom rubber extrusion design that enabled larger cabin openings, improving airflow while sealing out dust and water. This also allowed the door cut-out to be reused as the door panel, eliminating waste. The external kitchen features an ergonomic layout with innovative fold-out barbecue and sink arms creating larger work surfaces and easy workflow from fridge to pantry to sink and cooker.

  • The Rover 2 has strengthened Stockman’s position as an industry leader by attracting customers previously underserved by conventional caravans and defining an entirely new “Pod Camper” category in the Australian market. Designed for longevity, it prioritises durability of materials to extend the product lifespan. Its lightweight, streamlined design reduces energy consumption, making it increasingly suitable for the growing hybrid and electric vehicle towing market. Large manufacturing offcuts, including door cut-outs, are repurposed into components, eliminating waste at source. The Rover 2 also supports regional tourism by making remote Australia more accessible and giving Australians the confidence to travel further independently.

  • The Rover 2 was designed around three core principles: Comfort, Simplicity and Durability. Every design decision — from the cabin doors to the kitchen layout to power management — was evaluated against these criteria.Creating an ergonomic and spacious interior was essential within the small footprint. Employing clever interior design details such as curved joinery and shadow lines creates visual lightness, making the compact cabin feel considerably larger. The large dual hatch doors, enabled by a revolutionary custom designed rubber seal, open the cabin fully to the outside, making the space feel open and connected to the landscape. The external kitchen is the standout feature, with distinct work zones designed for efficiency. All storage above the stainless-steel bench and within easy reach keeps cooking essentials immediately accessible. Innovative swing-out BBQ and sink arms expand the workspace and maximise functional bench space without clutter. The bench lifts on gas struts to reveal the battery bank and diesel hot water system — keeping essential services accessible without consuming storage. The Australian-made off-road chassis and custom rotomoulded water tank prioritises high ground clearance and towing stability, enabling the Rover 2 to traverse terrain conventional caravans cannot. The REDARC power system runs everything off-grid.
