The Victorian Premier’s Design Awards Showcase for the first time shines a spotlight on a quarter of a century of award-winning design in Victoria. The exhibition explores through five themes: THEN, WHO, HOW, NOW and NEXT, the designers, their design practice, the outstanding work and its global impact.

  • The brief invited a chronological, poster/object on podium, "these were the winners from 1996 to 2021" outcome. The design concept, research and curatorial approach was to focus on impact and celebrate the practice of design adding value to the brief. The exhibition design and user experience was inclusive, multimodal and designed to endure well beyond the event, again adding value. A focus on the careers of practicing designers, at the top of their discipline, around THEN WHO HOW NOW and NEXT added significance and insights to the historical award winning work.

  • The multi modal user experience had real impact. The films, augmented reality and object displays engaged visitors at many levels. The 30 minutes of AV media content highlighted significant projects. Films were produced on Michael Simcoe - GM Holden, Jo Pritchard - Museum Victoria, Grant Petty - Black Magic Design, Hugo Davidson - Knog, Jack Magree and Steve Martinuzzo - Cobalt.

  • No record existed prior to this research. The research mapping produced an enduring array of content. The research was covered in national media and Creative Victoria produced a video released online

  • This research was conducted during COVID lockdown and was supported by many individuals in the design industry in Victoria.
