  • There are millions of remote sensors in the world, monitoring anything and everything. From temperature to soil moisture to rainfall, these sensors all use different electrical interfaces, speak different ‘languages’, and have different power requirements. These sensors all need a way to transmit their data, but which of the many interfaces, languages, and power requirements do you prioritise? Every use case is different, and catering to all applications with a single device seems impossible. How can you balance flexibility with low power and low cost?

  • The Hawk takes a flexible, customisable approach to sensor monitoring, iterating on previous Digital Matter dataloggers, the Falcon and the Eagle. Swappable Input/Output (I/O) Cards determine the sensor types each device can communicate with. Customers select their desired sensor—whether it's temperature, humidity, moisture, or others—which then guides them to a compatible I/O card. This modular approach keeps device costs low while ensuring maximum flexibility and broad market appeal. The customer can also choose from a variety of power options, helping the Hawk strike a perfect balance of flexibility, functionality and cost.

  • If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it. The Hawk's rugged flexibility, power, and affordability make remote monitoring possible with any sensor, anywhere. For example: •Wells, Tanks & Troughs: Monitor levels and remotely activate pumps to support livestock wellbeing. •Sewers & Drains: Proactively detect blockages and leaks, preventing costly failures. •Soil Moisture Monitoring: Optimize irrigation, conserve water, and improve crop yields. •Water Meters: Enable remote readings, eliminating costly manual checks. •Bluetooth Gateways: Use the Hawk as a Bluetooth Gateway and receive live information on the status of Bluetooth tags on small assets (e.g. tools) in the Hawk's vicinity.

  • The Hawk’s unique architecture, built around modular I/O cards, allows customers to build custom remote monitoring solutions faster and more affordably. The wide array of sensors currently integrated includes multiple temperature and humidity sensors, soil moisture probes, pressure sensors, thermal cameras, ultrasonic range sensors, radars, weather stations, and many more. Powerful onboard task management allows tasks (measurements) to run periodically or run based on the sensor readings themselves. For example, configure the Hawk to measure tank level and turn on a pump if the level gets low. Over-the-air configuration management allows remote fine-tuning of all aspects of the Hawk's operation. This includes tweaking operational settings, defining the software endpoint to send the data to, and remotely managing firmware. The Hawk can be powered by its rechargeable Li-Po battery, or with two D Cell batteries, LTC or Alkaline. With the rechargeable battery, it can be used with a supplementary external power source such as mains power or a solar panel. The Hawk is designed to be extremely power-efficient. For example, with the 2 x LTC batteries, the device can sample and report soil moisture every 15 minutes for more than 5 years.
