Steelcase Series 1

Through our research, we know that today’s advancing workplaces need seating solutions that deliver enduring performance, thoughtful ergonomics and versatility for fast-paced, ever-changing work. Until now, high performance task chairs that offer both choice and style have been largely out of reach for most growing organizations. The trade-off was often between that of performance and cost. The Steelcase Design team set out to create a chair that embodies all the performance people have come to expect from Steelcase, while still being accessible to the majority of the population, thereby democratizing access to ergonomics.

When designing Series 1, the team refused to waver on performance, yet had to reach an accessible price point. Every part of the chair had to be hard working and not just be an aesthetic feature. They explored every part of the global manufacturing, packaging and delivery process to maximize efficiencies, reduce cost and optimize quality. As a result, they were able to create an attainable, high-performance chair that supports everybody, everywhere. Series 1 offers a range of finishes and options that make an impressive statement in any space, while its lightweight profile makes it versatile enough for any application.

The creation of Series 1 allows Steelcase to provide access to performance office chairs at an affordable price point, thereby enabling access to high performance seating for a new audience. This is particularly true for many growing organizations who understand the value of a great chair but do not have the resources to be able to attain them for their workforce.

Integrated Liveback Technology allows the chair back to change shape and mimics the user’s spine as it moves throughout the day. It contours to fit a user’s spine through a system of flexors tucked neatly inside the backrest, offering continuous lower-back support as you move in your chair. 4D Adjustable Arms move in height, width and depth, and pivot to better support the user’s neck and shoulders. The cantilevered arm design encourages postural change. Adaptive Bolstering enables the seat to conform to the user’s shape, providing dynamic support that can adapt to the body as postures change. Seat depth adjustments allow the seat to be positioned forward or backward for long term comfort. Weight Activated Mechanism allows for quick, intuitive seat adjustments. A range of aesthetics is offered with 11 mix-and-match knit, flexor and lumbar colour options, and a wide range of shell and finish options that enable organizations to express their brand in a way that best represents them. Series 1 also comes with the options of a coat hanger, head rest and in stool height.
