  • CHALLENGE
  • SOLUTION
  • IMPACT
  • The lick block addresses the significant challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from grazing livestock, specifically targeting enteric methane emissions (mostly burps). By integrating Low & Grow lick blocks into the diet of livestock in paddocks, the product aims to significantly mitigate methane emissions, a major contributor to global warming. This innovative approach not only supports sustainable farming but also aligns with multiple industry’s commitment to decarbonising their supply chain, demonstrating tangible progress in the fight against climate change. The product’s success is verified through rigorous monitoring and third-party validation.

  • Low & Grow tackles methane emissions from livestock by incorporating SeaFeed (produced by Sea Forest using Asparagopsis) into their diet. Key design steps included: •Modifying Olsson’s 16% High Sulphur Lick Block, •Ensuring SeaFeed™’s stabilisation and integration into the block, •Conducting trials at farms. Significant milestones were: •The formulation of the blocks, •Developing a reporting Methodology similar to worldwide standards, •Monitoring animal’s health and intake. Challenges included: •Optimising the delivery method and ensuring consistent intake. Through rigorous testing and collaboration with industry leaders, the product successfully demonstrated a scalable solution for reducing livestock production’s carbon footprint, meeting and exceeding sustainability goals.

  • The lick block delivers significant commercial, environmental, and societal benefits. Commercially, it enhances the marketability of sustainable products including beef, wool and milk, meeting growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products. Environmentally, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to a targeted 70%, addressing a major climate change contributor. Societally, it promotes sustainable farming practices and supports the global agricultural decarbonisation efforts. By integrating SeaFeed™-enhanced lick blocks into livestock diets, the product showcases a scalable solution for reducing methane emissions, fostering a sustainable future for beef, wool, and dairy production, and setting a precedent for environmentally responsible agriculture.
