  • The Reset Razor addresses the critical challenge of traditional stick razors that were originally designed for face shaving and poorly suited for body shaving due to very different biomechanical demands of the task. Awkward wrist and hand position leads to less control and more nicks cuts with use of clumsy excessive force. The brief called for an ergonomic redesign, away from a stick handle, to a solution that promoted functional wrist positioning for better control, safety and overall efficiency. In addition, the design brief needed to address sustainability concerns, minimising the contribution to unnecessary waste that traditional stick razors generate.

  • The design journey from conception to market took four years, involving extensive prototyping, manufacturing solutions, and IP protection. A key realisation was that traditional stick razors, designed for face shaving 300 years ago, were unsuitable for body shaving due to different positioning needs. Positive customer feedback and repeat blade purchases have been exciting, especially seeing how it aids those with limited hand grip and dexterity. Using a single recyclable plastic, Polypropylene, and a subscription model promotes sustainability. Challenges included refining the design for mass production without losing ergonomic integrity and finding a suitable razor cartridge to fit the design.

  • The Reset Razor has a significant commercial, environmental, and social impact. Its mission is to inspire better design choices and resist marketing pressures that prioritise familiarity over innovation. True ergonomic design, focusing on function rather than gender, is crucial. The Reset Collective champions sustainable, functional design, urging mindful consumerism. By using a single recyclable material for the body and base, the razor addresses non-recyclable waste, aiming to reduce Australia’s 76 million tonnes of annual waste. The blade refill subscription promotes long-term ownership, reducing waste.

  • Customisable colours and an in-built hanging tie make it practical for shared bathrooms, while the handy pouch is for on-the-go storage. Another key feature is the inclusion of large water flow apertures, which are designed to minimise clogging.
