Navbit® Sprint is a world first, single-use, computer assisted surgical navigation system that improves the accuracy and efficacy of hip replacement surgery. The Australian designed proprietary technology tracks and displays the angles of inclination and version in hip replacement surgery, providing quicker more informed insights throughout the operation. It’s designed to be simple enough for any surgeon to use and ensures the patient’s postoperative x-ray will result in the acetabular cup being optimally positioned.

  • Dislocation after hip replacement is the most common cause of failure of this otherwise successful procedure - a great expense to the health system and patient wellbeing. Surgeons require smarter tools that benefit from technological advancements to deliver better patient outcomes the first time. Sprint needed to create an entirely new intra surgery experience, combining software + hardware to deliver improved accuracy while preserving the flow of surgery and importance of practicality and reproducibility. The format needed to be simple, stripping out the cognitive burden typically associated with learning and using new technologies. Simple enough for any surgeon to use, meaning Sprint can be used without the requirement for any preoperative planning. Sprint required a heavy focus on usability; helping to make a surgeon's work less stressful and complicated. The design needed to be thoughtful and simple, with visual cues such as grip details and sequence specific UI elements to eliminate confusion; Sprint needed to be small, sterile, single-use, ready-to-go and cost-effective for hospitals/surgeries.

  • Sprint radically simplifies hip surgery operational workflows. Simple enough that any surgeon can use it + designed to feel more like the kind of intuitive tech you use every day at home. Sprint is a single-use device that utilizes a palm-sized computer module containing sensors including rate gyroscopes and accelerometers to generate real time angular measurements used to guide acetabular cup implantation during orthopaedic procedures. During hip arthroplasty procedures, Sprint assists surgeons in registering the pelvic coordinate system and determining the inclination angle and the anteversion angle of the introducer/impactor relative to the registered pelvic coordinate system. Sprint features a simple registration interface with a table tilt and high-contrast LED display. The ultra-bright LED display ensures an intuitive user experience and enhanced readability at-all-angles for surgeons in brightly lit surgical environments. Sprint's over-moulded design ensures safety - hermetically sealed, internals pose no contamination risk - Sprint has no risk of breaking/falling apart mid-surgery. Sprint sports a high-tech black, purple, and steel CMF. Sprints construction features medical grade stainless steel and fully biocompatible plastics tested to meet FDA, TGA, and CE MARK standards.

  • For Patients: + Reduced risk of dislocation after hip replacement (associated with component mispositioning), the most common cause of failure of this otherwise successful procedure. + Accurate alignment is expected to reduce the likelihood of revision surgery. + Patients can expect to get a great outcome, without pain or complications. For Surgeons: + Sprint relieves the cognitive burden of having to perform surgery using their best judgement alone. + Instils confidence in surgeons undertaking a technically demanding surgery. + Gives surgeons with less experience (typically have higher rates of dislocation) better patient outcomes. For Hospitals: + Reduction in revision surgery offers significant cost savings to the health system and improved patient outcomes. + Single-use means no maintenance, no re-sterilisation overheads, no keeping track of parts, and no hidden costs. For the Environment: + Single-use can be perceived as 'worse' for the environment. This does not consider the impact of alternative large complex systems - materials, production, distribution, ongoing sterilization + servicing, replacement parts and more.

  • Sprint's design assists surgeons to achieve chosen angles of inclination and anteversion in minutes, helping to reduce time in surgery for patients + fatigue in surgeons. Sprint devices are available in two configurations: 'Supine' and 'Lateral' - making alignment simple regardless of the required patient position in surgery. Inclination and version angle measurements are provided intraoperatively assisting surgeons to accurately align the acetabular cup of the hip replacement. Most alternative systems are large technically complex re-usable systems (machines on stands, screens, laser pointers, etc) that require significant upfront and ongoing costs for surgical theatres. These systems are typically at least 10x or more the cost of Sprint, requiring extensive training, ongoing maintenance, sterilisation, and significant amounts of space for storage and operation. + Sprint is small, requiring little to no storage considerations compared to large alternative systems. + No capital costs, no subscription fees, no minimum order quantities - ability purchase as single units or in multi-volumes as required. + Using Sprint takes just a few minutes, allowing operating rooms to turn over with great efficiency. + Perfectly suited to a world anxious about infections in the operating room (single-use).
