Grill’d sought a partner to address challenges in scaling and adapting to market demands, aiming to boost user retention, satisfaction and revenue across the digital channel. They aimed to enhance their iOS/Android app platform’s competitiveness and user experience to meet evolving market expectations.

  • The primary challenge was exceeding competitors’ standards of speed and convenience while surfacing their conscious consumption selling points throughout the guest experience. DEPT® recognised the necessity of marrying two essential aspects: the seamless customer journey for guests and members of the Grill’d loyalty experiences. And, on top of that, weaving the Grill’d core ethos of conscious consumption throughout the entire user journey, giving customers reasons greater than a burger to order Grill’d regularly. Leveraging a hybrid-app framework and a meticulously crafted scalable design system, DEPT®’s plan was not merely to meet market standards but to set new benchmarks for excellence.

  • In tackling the multifaceted challenges presented by the project, DEPT® embarked on a comprehensive solution that encompassed rebuilding key elements while fostering collaboration with Grill’d’s internal teams. Focusing on the UX strategy, the team implemented features that inform and delight customers in making better choices for their community through utilising personalised metrics and real-time displays. These efforts were supported by cutting-edge technologies, like the hybrid-app framework, enabling DEPT® to deliver rapid enhancements while maintaining scalability and performance. With ongoing iterations and improvements, the solution addresses the imperative for speed and convenience whilst elevating the Grill’d platform with purpose and precision.

  • DEPT® redesigned the entire user experience, bringing together a technical solution that reduced overhead from managing multiple content management systems. This was done to ensure that every interaction was infused with Grill’d’s mission of conscious consumption, commitment to offsetting carbon emissions, collaborating with indigenous communities, recycling cooking oil into biodiesel, and transitioning restaurants to green power. DEPT®’s deep understanding of the hospitality industry fore-fronted high-quality solutions in QSR and eCommerce experiences. These efforts have enhanced Grill’d’s brand agility in navigating the ever-evolving digital landscape whilst continuing to advocate sustainability and delight their customers.

  • To overcome obstacles, DEPT® developed a holistic design system, which facilitated the seamless integration of components across multiple platforms. A new feature includes the 8 & Donate tracker where Grill’d can delight customers with a new loyalty tracker with convenient access to rewards. Local Matters is another feature where customers can vote to support community charities. Another smart feature is Favourites, which makes ordering easier through the use of order history and previous burger customisations. If you always order the Simply Grill’d without tomato – it’s one tap away! The collaborative decision to break the mould by omitting a navigation toolbar, simply leads customers directly into the menu ordering experience, minimising clicks to order all in support of speed and convenience. This has resulted in the reduced number of taps to purchase your favourite burger from their previous app by 15% – 60%.
