Stephen Todd is the Design Editor of the Australian Financial Review.

He began his career in Paris in the early 1990s, writing on art, architecture, fashion and design for The New York Times, The Guardian, Wallpaper*, Blueprint and American Vogue. He was co-founder and editor of Numéro magazine and has been an editorial consultant to E-Map (UK), Excelsior (France) and the Louise T McBain Foundation (Switzerland).

As the director of concept+image (Paris) he devised exhibitions, publications and advertising for luxury clients including Moët & Chandon, Lancaster, Woolmark and Swarovski AG, for whom he was the consulting Director of Branding & Communication overseeing collaborations with designers including Konstantin Grcic, Vivienne Westwood, Nendo, Viktor & Rolf, Doshi Levien, Valentino and Neri & Hu.

During two decades in Paris, Stephen retained close links with home, particularly though his fashion and arts correspondency for The Australian newspaper (1994-2008). Today, as the design editor of the Australian Financial Review he speaks to global issues, innovations and aesthetics with a local voice and is an engaged advocate of Australian initiative.

He has sat on numerous design juries, is an advisor to the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences and a communications consultant to the creative industries.
